FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you clean upholstery and area rugs in addition to carpets?

Yes. Valley Professional offers several services beyond carpet cleaning:

Upholstery cleaning: Sofas, sectionals, armchairs, dining chairs, and ottomans — all fabric types except leather. In-home service preferred, off-site available.
Area rug cleaning: All rug types including fine wool, silk, and handmade rugs. Off-site cleaning preferred for delicate pieces, with a 3 to 5 day turnaround.
Tile and grout cleaning: Deep cleaning for kitchen, bathroom, entryway, and commercial tile surfaces.
Pet odor and stain treatment: Targeted treatment for pet urine, odors, and staining. Odor removal guaranteed.
Commercial carpet cleaning: Offices, retail spaces, medical facilities, and rental properties. After-hours scheduling available.

All services are backed by the same standard of care and the 7-Day Spot Re-Treatment Guarantee. Contact Dean for a free quote on any service.

What is the difference between professional carpet cleaning and renting a machine?

The primary difference is power, heat, and extraction. Rental machines and consumer steam cleaners use low-pressure, low-heat systems with limited suction. Professional truck-mounted equipment operates at a significantly higher level on all three measures — and the results show it.

Common problems with rental and consumer machines:

Carpets left wet for 24 hours or longer, increasing the risk of mold and mildew
Cleaning solution residue left in fibers, which attracts dirt faster after cleaning
Insufficient suction to remove soil from the base of the carpet pile
No meaningful allergen or bacteria removal

Professional truck-mounted hot water extraction removes more soil, more allergens, and more moisture in a single pass. Most carpets cleaned by Valley Professional are dry within 2 to 3 hours. Rental machine results often look similar on the surface initially, but the carpet re-soils faster and the deep cleaning simply does not happen.

Do I need to move my furniture before the appointment?

You do not need to move everything yourself. Dean moves standard furniture as part of the service — sofas, chairs, ottomans, and tables are handled during the job.

Before Dean arrives, it helps to:

Clear breakables, lamps, and decorative items from surfaces
Remove electronics and cords from the floor
Pick up any items stored on the carpet
Clear a path from the front door to the areas being cleaned

Very heavy pieces — large entertainment centers, beds with mattresses, large dressers, and pianos — are typically cleaned around rather than moved. If you have specific concerns about furniture or access, mention them when you book and Dean will walk you through what to expect for your home.

How long does a typical carpet cleaning appointment take?

A typical residential carpet cleaning appointment with Valley Professional takes 2 to 3 hours from arrival to completion, depending on the size of the area being cleaned and the condition of the carpet.

Factors that affect appointment length include the total square footage, the number of heavily soiled or stained areas requiring extra attention, whether upholstery or area rugs are also being cleaned, and the layout of the space.

Commercial jobs vary based on square footage and scheduling. After-hours appointments are available for businesses that need cleaning done outside of operating hours.

Dean will give you a realistic time estimate when you call to book. Request a free quote and he will walk you through what to expect for your specific space.

Can you remove pet odors and urine stains from carpet?

Yes — and odor removal is guaranteed.

Pet urine does not stay at the surface. It penetrates through carpet fibers into the backing and pad below, where odor-producing bacteria continue to develop long after the visible stain dries. This is why store-bought sprays and consumer steam cleaners rarely eliminate pet odor permanently — they treat the surface without reaching the source.

Valley Professional uses targeted pet odor and stain treatment that reaches deeper into the carpet structure to neutralize the bacteria causing the smell. Dean's nearly 40 years of experience means he knows what works — and he stands behind the result.

In cases of severe urine saturation where moisture has reached the subfloor, pad replacement may also be necessary for full odor elimination. If that is the situation, Dean will assess it honestly and tell you before any work begins. Contact us for a free assessment.

Is professional carpet cleaning safe for kids and pets?

Yes. The cleaning solutions Dean uses are professional-grade and safe for children and pets once the carpet is fully dry.

Hot water extraction relies primarily on heat and water pressure to break down and remove soil, rather than saturating carpet fibers with harsh chemicals. This means less residue is left behind after cleaning compared to other methods. The result is a cleaner, safer surface for the people and animals in your home.

As a precaution, keep children and pets off the carpet until it is completely dry — typically 2 to 3 hours after Dean finishes. If you have a pet with a history of accidents on the carpet, ask about pet odor and stain treatment when you book.

How often should I have my carpets professionally cleaned?

Most carpet manufacturers and the IICRC recommend professional cleaning every 12 to 18 months for typical households. However, the right frequency for your home depends on your situation.

Homes with children or pets: Every 6 to 12 months
High-traffic or allergy households: Every 6 to 12 months
Low-traffic households with no pets: Every 12 to 18 months
Rental units and commercial properties: At minimum between tenants, often quarterly depending on use

Regular professional cleaning extends the life of your carpet, improves indoor air quality by removing allergens and bacteria, and is often required to maintain the warranty on many carpet brands. Waiting too long between cleanings allows soil to work deeper into fibers, making restoration more difficult and shortening the lifespan of the carpet.

What carpet cleaning method does Valley Professional use?

Valley Professional uses truck-mounted hot water extraction — also known as steam cleaning — for all carpet cleaning jobs. This is the most thorough carpet cleaning method available for both residential and commercial use, and is recommended by major carpet manufacturers including Shaw and Mohawk.

The truck-mounted system delivers significantly more heat, pressure, and suction than portable rental machines or consumer steam cleaners. That means deeper cleaning, better soil and allergen removal, and faster drying times — all in a single pass. The equipment stays in Dean's truck, with only the hose and wand coming into your home.

Dean has used this method throughout his nearly 40-year career and considers it the only approach worth offering his clients. Learn more about professional carpet cleaning services or request a free quote.

What happens if a stubborn spot comes back after cleaning?

Valley Professional backs every job with a 7-Day Spot Re-Treatment Guarantee. If any treated spot reappears within 7 days of your cleaning, Dean returns and retreats it — no charge, no questions asked.

Some spots reappear due to a process called wicking, where residue from deep in the carpet fiber or pad travels back up to the surface as the carpet dries. This is a known characteristic of certain stain types — particularly those involving sugary liquids, pet urine, or old set-in stains — and is not a sign of poor workmanship. Professional re-treatment after the carpet is fully dry resolves the issue in most cases.

The guarantee exists because Dean stands behind his results. If it comes back, he comes back.

How long does it take for my carpets to dry after professional cleaning?

Most carpets cleaned by Valley Professional are dry within 2 to 3 hours. In all cases, drying is complete within 6 hours.

Drying time depends on several factors: carpet fiber type, pile density, the humidity level in your home, and how much airflow is moving through the space. Truck-mounted hot water extraction — the method Dean uses — removes significantly more moisture during the cleaning process than portable or rental machines, which is the primary reason drying times are faster than most homeowners expect.

You can speed things up further by opening windows, running ceiling fans, or turning on your HVAC system after the cleaning is complete. Most clients are walking on their carpets comfortably within a few hours of Dean leaving.
